Mobility or flexibility: why you need both
Fitnes Team·July 1, 2026·1 min read
Flexibility is passive range. Mobility is the range you actually control with your own muscles.
Why the difference matters
Someone can be flexible and still move badly under load, because they have range they cannot stabilise. That combination is where injuries live.
How to train each
Flexibility responds to longer static holds, best done after training. Mobility responds to controlled work through range — think slow squats to depth, or loaded stretches.
Avoid long static stretching immediately before heavy lifting. It briefly reduces force output.
A realistic dose
Five to ten minutes of mobility in your warm-up, and stretching on rest days or after sessions.
