Cardio or strength training for fat loss?
Fitnes Team·June 10, 2026·1 min read
Cardio burns more calories per session. Strength training changes what your body does with them.
What each one gives you
Cardio improves cardiovascular capacity and adds to your daily energy expenditure. Strength work preserves muscle while you are in a deficit, which keeps your metabolic rate from dropping as far.
Losing weight is not the same as losing fat. Without resistance training, a meaningful share of what you lose is muscle.
A workable split
Two or three strength sessions plus two easy cardio sessions a week. Keep most of the cardio conversational — you should be able to talk.
The part that decides it
Neither one outruns the kitchen. The deficit comes from food; training protects what you keep.
